the siani fortress

The escapade to the Siani cabin was a success.  Ottavio, Osborne, Angela, and I, along with two Siani dogs, basically sat on our butts and did nothing for two days.  Jeez, who knew normal vacations were so nice.  My family considers starving/freezing/walking to death while backpacking in the Sierras to be a vacation. While I appreciate the joys of backpacking now, I definitely dreaded family vacations as a kid.  There are many stories of me and my siblings sitting down on the trail, bawling, and refusing to walk any farther.
Anyway, the Siani cabin is on an island in the middle of lake Waukewan, which can only be reached by boat.  It sits right on the shore, a great view, and really comfortable deck furniture. We literallly just sat around, speculated about our futures, drank beer, and read.  The lake neighbors set off enough expensive fireworks to outdo many professional shows Ive seen.  We figured they probably spent $20,000 on fireworks.  Crazy.  I read Into the Wild, which was really good.  It inspired me to make a major trip somewhere under my own power, maybe biking across the country or something like that.  Maybe at a later time.  For the time being its rowing and school.  It was really good to see Ottavio and Angela, it is probably the last time I will see them before I leave for the UK, which means I wont see them for more than a year.  Man, graduation is freaky, suddenly all the people you see every day disappear from your radar, only to reappear every couple of years.  It was really fun to play with dogs. I think one of the things I dislike most about college is that there are no dogs.  (this probably says something about how easy my life as a college student is).
Rowing is going good, more of the same, although this is our last full day in Hanover.  Tomorrow morning we hop on the train and ride to princeton.  Its supposed to be a super long train ride, so I will need to find something to do.  Callahan continues to make fun of me for being out of shape.  Today he was mocking me when I was breathing hard after a 40 stroke piece. The teasing is definitely good natured, but definitely raises my ire when I am tired in the middle of a hard workout.

  3. yeah, but if you pull hard enough, 40 strokes should be long enough to make anyone breathe hard. i suspect that callahan doesn't realize that his ribbing is anti-productive...
