at the AQ

Things are settling into a pretty good rhythm here in Princeton.  Essentially its more of the same; breakfast, row, 2nd breakfast, watch the tour, lunch, row, dinner, sleep.  Its different because its princeton, because were are staying at the Aquinas, and because the Olympic team is here.  Its pretty cool to be around the best rowers in the United States, and possibly the world.  All the people Ive heard rowing legends about over the years are here.  Former Stanford rowers David Banks and Jamie Schroeder, are here, and its nice to see some familiar faces, as well as some people who were in my place only a few years ago, but are going to the Olympics now.

The Olympic 8+ has been hammering it, so apparently they are too tired to piece us.  I think we might do some short stuff, maybe 250s with them tomorrow night, but nothing serious.  This is a little disappointing; it would have been fun to piece them.  Oh well.

A couple of people have asked about the VO2 max erg test.  Because the selection process was shorter this year, the coaches wanted to select the boat as quickly as possible.  They also said that they are not looking to select the guys with potential, but instead just select the fastest boat possible.  This means that there was no VO2 test because, in theory, they didnt care about potential.  I think Osborne was a little disappointed by this because he didnt get the chance to show off.  However, I was okay without a showcase of my mediocre ergs.  Last year Fritz, the physiologist, told me that my physiology was far above my erg performance.  In other words, "Silas, you are a giant pansy, pull harder".  Ill figure out how to erg someday.  maybe.

  1. Well all know that Goat Boy is the fastest rower in the world. Don't even pretend that the fastest rowers in the World are at Princeton.

  2. Hooray for big VO2s and bad erg times! I'm a champ at that.

Goat boy is that frickin guy from Harvard who didn't lose a race in college with Holzapfelafdsagkljh, Malcolm Howard, who pulled a 6k in something like 18:29 or something. He is called Goat Boy because he not only looks like a goat, but his U23 host families reported him eating them out of house and home, of EVERYTHING, like a goat. But also, he seriously looks like a farm animal.
