jet lag!

Basically nothing has happened since my last post, but I am writing again to keep me awake. Ive never really had trouble with jet-lag before, but let me tell you that it sucks. I managed to stay awake yesterday until 9pm. This was a mighty effort because most of my teammates went to bed at 7pm. I fell right asleep, slept soundly until midnight when my body suddenly thought it was dinnertime. Extraordinarily hungry, I writhed in bed for about 3 or 4 hours until east coast bedtime rolled around, and then slept until Osborne woke me up at 7:30am. Breakfast was a pretty amazing meal this morning, considering that my body had been waiting for 8 hours to eat dinner. The food in general is pretty good, served at our hotel.

All the other US boats, plus the Irish team, plus the German team are staying at our hotel. There is a weird unspoken hierarchy between the US boats, which is kinda funny. I personally feel entitled to special treatment because I suffered through a rigorous selection camp while the other boats did not even have to meet a time standard. This makes me snooty snooty snooty. Its hard not to look down on the athletes from weak rowing programs who forked over the cash to come and compete here. Having these other boats here just gives me more incentive to win, in order to differentiate ourselves from the other American boats here. I have been obsessing over winning in the past few days, much more than I usually do. I hope this desire converts into boatspeed.

The race course is nice, although I fear the weather could be a major factor because the course is pretty exposed. It has a big grandstand, but otherwise is pretty similar to any 6 lane racecourse.

I feel pretty much like poop right now, but I think I can make it through the day okay. sweet.

  3. hang tough. talk to your cox and have him collect common motivational calls from your crew? the fuel for the 1000m move might be collected now, the constant desire and fire.
