rumblin with some Olympians

We did 12 x 250m against the Olympic 8+ this afternoon, and it went about as well as it could.  They came in sets of four, with the first piece of each set being a start, the middle pieces being base speed, and the last piece being a lift/sprint. I think we just about split the pieces.  We clearly won all three of the starting 250m pieces.  I think they won most of the body pieces, but we took a couple of them.  The sprint pieces were "you call 'ems" for most of them.  There are a million excuses why the Olympic 8+ didn't completely dominate our boat. However, at the same time, these are some of the best rowers and the world, and they should be able to beat us any day of the week.  Needless to day, winning some pieces was a lot of fun, and spirits are high in the U23 boat at the moment.  As the "frosh boat" of the National team, we developed something of a frosh boat mentality; in a word, feisty.  This means being obnoxious, taking seats any way we can, and refusing to "go away" in any of the pieces.  fun fun fun.  We were really blowing it out for every piece, so I am pretty wiped out now.
For lunch I went out to coffee with Father Tom, director of the Aquinas Institute.  He is a pretty cool guy and it was good to talk to him.    I feel like I cant write coherently right now, so I am going to stop. sweet.
