We have moved down to London permanently until the boat race. I was staying with a lovely family in a lovely house in Kensington, but now we (the blue boat) have moved into a house together in Putney. It also is a really nice house, and we are very fortunate to have these accommodations.
Fixture: this past weekend we had a scrimmage, called a fixture, against Leander club, which is the top rowing club in UK. Most of the national team guys for GB row there. They were some pretty big time names in their boat, including more than 5 Olympic medalists. We started off beautifully, with lots of easy speed and float at a 36. We quickly moved out to a length up by about 500m in. We continued to slowly walk, until the beginning of the Surrey bend, which is worth about a length in their favour. They started to come back, we hit a rough patch of water, and lost our free speed. They continued to walk back, and we lost some composure. By the end of the piece (just over halfway on the course) they were about a length up. While it is pretty frustrating to be walked through, and I'm not sure that has happened to me before in a race, overall I felt pretty positive. I am confident that if we raced again we would beat Leander. We can rumble with the best, we have free speed, and we are going to punch some people in the mouth in the coming weeks.
Photo shoot: We had a photo shoot for Italian vogue! ridiculous! We dressed up in tennis-club clothes, had our grooming (read as: makeup) done, and practised our zoolander faces.
I will be updating this blog much more frequently in the lead-up to the boatrace. I might put a password on this blog to prevent Oxford eyes from seeing it, but I will let you know.
Hi Silas - I like hearing about your rowing. If you put a password on, keep me in mind. I won't tell Oxford.
ReplyDeleteYou have to post photos of the Italian Vogue shoot somewhere! :)
