here is my last varsity column. This time my face made the back page and the front page! There is also an article about the race, as well as a funny satirical piece about the race. Somehow satire doesn't feel that funny when you've lost. Okay, this is my last emo post about the boat race. From now on my posts will be about slaying, raging, and being happy.
Let time and perspective (and hopefully a redemptive victory) take care of the emotional edge. I don't think we're obligated to completely detach ourselves from the events of the past--we shouldn't force ourselves to pretend things didn't matter. But time should take care of it, and I think I understand, to a small extent at least, the emo-ness that you spoke of. Now to RTFA :)
ReplyDeleteI remember reading your Varsity column when I studied at Cambridge in 2008-9. After watching the Boat Race today, I felt compelled to revisit your blog in search of some solace and perspective.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of your insights into the world of rowing over the past few years. I wish you all the best with your training and races this season!
