mo o the same

Not a lot of interest has happened in my life since fours head.  Lots of rowing, a bit of schoolwork, and... well, I cant think of anything else to put on that list. We've been rowing pairs (two man boats without a coxswain) almost exclusively, switching partners every couple of days.  Ive had some good rows, some bad.  I really didn't have much experience in  pairs before this, beyond getting whomped at the prestigious Wine Country Crew Classic by Sonoma State, and the odd hang-loose row on my days off.  I got a pair going pretty well with Rob Weitemeyer, which was fun, playing leapfrog.  In this case, leapfrog meant leaping in front and then stiff-arming the other pair for as long as possible at the lower rate.
We do sooo much more training volume here than at Stanford.  Today was 80 min on the erg in the morning, followed by 20k row in pairs, with pieces.  This was considered an easier day.  Unfortunately Rob was feeling ill today, so my pair had to turn around part way through the workout head home.  Its funny, because I rarely feel like our workouts our very tough (there is only one weekly workout that I struggle with).  Regardless, I am completely toasted all the time just cause of the high mileage.
Anyway, Ive started to miss some things about California, now that the novelty of being in England is wearing off.  I am really happy, and I love being here, but at the same time it bums me out to look at "old" photos from college, or to think about spending Thanksgiving away from my fam (I am inviting all my friends over and cooking a turkey, fingers crossed I dont completely mess it up).
From the land of 20 oz pints,
Silas

  1. ha, celebrating thanksgiving--a holiday directly resulting from rejection of King and Country--in Britain :) well done!

hope school's going well. the mileage sounds pretty spot-on...the Boat Race is longer than your average 2k :)

cooking turkeys isn't too bad, but planning it all out requires some thought. be sure you have the thing defrosting in the fridge beforehand. i used the "5 hrs/lb" rule. yeah, for a 20lb turkey, my fridge was pretty occupied for a few days...
