royalty!

we met Prince Phillip! the husband of the Queen.  This year is Cambridge's 800th anniversary and there have been a number of celebratory events, including the naming of our new Empacher shell, called "the 800th".  Pretty exciting to meet some royalty.  I think my favorite part was observing how excited everyone else got about the affiar; we spend weeks cleaning and repainting the boathouse, making even the back rooms which the Prince wouldnt see spotless.  We also got to row our new shell on the Cam, which was flooded so that it lapped up to the doors of the boathouse, and was absolutely freezing!  We also made it onto the bbc news for the affair.  Here are some pictures, i'm not in either, so dont bother looking.

  1. ah, the old "keep the yanks+foreigners out of sight" game :p hope y'all used water-based paints. it'd be terribly annoying to deal with non-water-based paints off-gassing nasty stuff in the few months leading up to the Boat Race...
